Adoration
Connecting through adoration is simply worshiping God. You feel that through songs you are drawn deeper into the presence of God. When we show God our love, awe, wonder, and affection we are telling Him that He is the only one who deserves our worship.
Anything we are feeling or thinking that is not of God must leave when we are in His presence. All lies, depression, anxiety, shame, and hopelessness lose their grip when we focus our hearts on Jesus. Nobody else is worthy of our praise. God first loved us. Now we have the ability to pour our love back to Him.
Connecting through adoration means you feel that you encounter God most when you worship. This is because He created you for worship. Worshiping with your voice, instruments, and words of love and praise. You keep your ears tuned to His voice through the affection you show toward Him.
Compassion
Compassion is connecting with the heart of God for His children. You are called to be a light in a dark world. The Bible says the Lord is full of compassion. Compassion isn’t just being kind and helping others. It is weeping with those who weep. You connect with God and feel close to Him when you are loving the people that God loves.
You love aligning your heart with Heaven and bringing the love and kindness of God to a broken world. You want to help carry the burdens of others and serve them well. As people receive compassion their hearts are open to receive what God has for them, whether that is blessing, hope, or salvation.
Conversation
Conversation with God is wanting Him to be involved in everything in your life. You feel close to God when you are simply talking to Him even in the seemingly miniscule moments of your day.
The more you speak with Him, the more you know what His voice sounds like. God speaks to your spirit and wants to speak because one word from Him can change everything. You love asking God questions and meditating on His word.
There is nothing too small or too big to ask Him. Speaking with Him and inquiring about His heart and His mind brings you into His presence.
Creation
Connecting through creation is feeling the presence of God, hearing His voice, or worshiping Him in His creation. You feel the need to join in with all of nature to glorify God. Mountains, bodies of water, feeling the wind on your face or hearing the rustling of trees beckons you into His presence. You stand in awe of Him.
You love the greatness of God and the expanse of who He is reflected in the creation He made. You see Him in nature. You consider the outdoors to be your sanctuary and you would prefer to meet with Him in the forest rather than in a building.
God speaks through His creation. Revelation comes to you through examples the Lord points out in nature.
Expression
Expression is feeling close to God while you are creating. Whether it’s writing, painting, playing an instrument, creating media, dancing etc. God is a creative being and He made you in His image. This means that you have creativity in you. Wherever creative abilities He has given you, you can encounter God through it.
When you create, you can surrender your abilities to the Lord and catch what He wants to share with you. Because you are focused on God when you are creating, there is an intimacy that is shared. Creating with the Lord brings you joy, peace, healing, and revelation.
Your creativity is an avenue of connection with the Holy Spirit. He will speak to you in ways that you can understand Him.
Fasting
Fasting is a spiritual discipline where we deny the desires of our flesh and fill ourselves up with God, His Word, and His presence. Fasting isn’t a diet or just a time of going without. It is a time of drawing near to God and putting His desires above our own.
If you connect with God through fasting, it means that when you deny your flesh and feed your spirit, you feel closest to God. When you fast, you are resetting your appetite on the things of the Spirit instead of the things of the world.
When you intentionally withhold or abstain temporarily from entertainment, social media, food, etc, you are able to move distractions out of the way and focus on what God is saying.
Learning
Learning is when God teaches you or reveals something to you that you didn’t know before. You feel closest to God when He shares revelation with you. Jesus gives us revelation or new understanding about the ways of God. As you read scripture and something grabs your attention, dive deeper into it. The Holy Spirit wants to lead you into understanding and give you access to something that was once hidden.
You love God with your mind and you aren’t content with shallow understanding of scripture. You wish not just to understand what you believe in, but understand why you believe it. You draw close to the presence of God when He is teaching you.
Meditation
Meditation is an intentional focus on God’s word. Thinking about it, pondering it, seeking the full meaning of it. You allow the word of God to become living in your heart and mind.
Connecting with God through meditation is not just reading the Bible, but allowing the scripture to transform and renew your mind. Thinking deeply about the ways of God and focusing your mind to understand what His thoughts are. When you meditate on His word you create space for the Holy Spirit to dwell in your spirit, your heart, and your mind. You are actively taking every thought and aligning it with God’s heart and mind.
As you grow in meditation be open to God revealing things about Himself and His character through the scripture. Ask for His presence to be with you when you read and help you catch every word He is speaking.
Movement
Movement is experiencing God’s presence when you move your body physically. It’s being intentional to run, walk, dance, exercise, and move to encounter Him. Moving your body can bring extra focus to hear His voice, prepare you to read His word, and it can push you out of your comfort zone.
When you feel His presence, acknowledge Him with your movement. Your movement can be a response to His movement toward you. Movement releases faith and freedom, which opens the door to a childlikeness that gets you into God’s presence.
Reformation
Connecting with God through reformation is partnering with Him to make the crooked ways straight through prayer, intercession, and action. You want to be close to the heart of God. Your heart breaks for what breaks His. You want to see His Heavenly justice done on earth.
Jesus first brought reformation to us. He brought us out of darkness and sin into light and righteousness. He made every crooked way straight so that we could go into the presence of our Heavenly Father. When you connect through reformation, you see that His ways are higher than our ways. You hear what is on His heart, and partner with Him to bring justice.
Remembrance
You connect with God by remembering the things He has done. You enter into His gates with thankfulness and praise. You feel closest to Him when you think about what He has saved you from and brought you out of. Remembrance brings you back to the first time you fell in love with His presence.
You often connect through songs that hold significant memories for you of what God said or did. You enjoy reading stories in the Bible of how God was faithful to His people and remains faithful to you even now. You enjoy things like taking communion and having keepsakes to remind you of your testimony or the miracles you have seen in your life.
Solitude
Solitude is connecting with God by getting alone with Him. Getting away from distractions, setting your eyes on Jesus, and making quality one on one time with Him. It is in intimacy with God that you grow spiritually. Solitude can sometimes be mistaken for isolation. You are never alone when you are connecting with God in solitude. Instead you are intentionally quieting your mind and your environment in order to hear the voice of God and His heart for you and the world around you.
You feel close to God when you are able to be alone with Him and know it’s just Him and you in your environment. Your desire is to give Him all your attention and affection, so you remove distractions. You feel seen and heard by Him in your sacred space of solitary peace, absorbing everything He has for you.
